Grout Enhancer is a product manufactured by Laticrete meant for use on ceramic or stone tile. The product replaces water "to provide a dense, colorfast grout joint," according to the product description. Grout Enhancer requires proper surface, preparation, mixing and application for best results.

Uses

Grout Enhancer is mixed with grout to seal it, preventing mold, mildew and bacteria from growing there. Its manufacturer holds it also reduces cracking and powdering in tile grout. Sealing the grout also locks in its color, prevents moisture and weather damage, and reduces absorption in the grout. It can't be used in areas exposed to harsh chemicals or in lieu of a waterproof membrane for tile.

Application

Applying Grout Enhancer requires clearing grout joints of all debris and spacers. The substance mixes with grout powder to form a smooth, stiff compound that sits for five to 10 minutes before being remixed. To apply the mixture, dampen the tile, and spread on with a rubber grout float in diagonal strokes. Check that each joint is completely filled. Drag a clean grout float at a 45-degree angle across the tile to pick up excess compound. Rub the tile with a damp, clean rag to get any remaining excess product.

Considerations for Best Results

Always test Grout Enhancer on a small area before doing a large area, as some types of tiles stain during application. Always let Grout Enhancer cure completely per label instructions before allowing foot traffic, particularly in colder weather. In steam rooms, Grout Enhancer needs 14 days to cure before using or bringing in water.

Other Tips

Before applying Grout Enhancer, sweep the floor with a cloth broom to free it of all dust and debris. Open windows, and turn on fans for proper ventilation. Work in small sections, scraping up excess product as you go, as it begins to cure and stays wet only two to three hours or so. Leave the tile undisturbed during curing time, which ranges from 12 to 72 hours depending on how heavy foot traffic is and room or outdoor temperature.
