Passion fruit comes in dark purple or yellow varieties. When you select passion fruit, examine it for wrinkles. The wrinkled skin indicates ripeness. Once the passion fruit ripens, it needs stored properly to prolong the shelf life.

Refrigerator

Step 1

Wash the passion fruit under cool running water. Dry the passion fruit completely with paper towels.

Place the passion fruit in brown paper bags. Allow the fruit to ripen.

Step 3

Place the passion fruit in the refrigerator. Store the fruit in the refrigerator for best results.

Step 4

Store the passion fruit for up to two weeks.

Freezer

Step 1

Wash the passion fruit thoroughly with cool water.

Step 2

Cut the passion fruit in half. Scoop out the pulp into a bowl.

Place the pulp into ice cube trays.

Freeze the passion fruit. Remove the fruit from the ice cube trays and store the frozen fruit in a freezer container or freezer bag.

Store the frozen passion fruit for up to eight months.

Add a pinch sugar to the passion fruit when you freeze it to ensure that it retains its sweet flavor.
