-
1 large loaf crusty (not soft) bread
-
4 tablespoons butter, melted
-
2 cups grated cheddar cheese
-
1/4 cup chopped cilantro or chives
-
Additional desired toppings
Tip

Step 1: Make 1-Inch Cuts
Make cuts diagonally across the bread every inch or so, making sure to leave the bottom crust intact, do not cut all the way through the bread.
Step 2: Cut in the Other Directions
Make diagonal cuts in the other direction to form a diamond crosshatch pattern, making sure not to cut all the way through the loaf. You want the bottom to still be intact.
Step 3: Add Melted Butter
Place on a baking sheet, pour the melted butter over the loaf, making sure the butter gets between the cuts.
Step 4: Cover and Bake
Cover with aluminum foil and bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 10 minutes.
Step 5: Add Cheese
Remove from oven, top with cheese making sure to press the cheese in between the cuts. Return to the oven uncovered for another 10 minutes or until the cheese has melted.
Step 6: Add Toppings
Sprinkle with cilantro and any other toppings you desire, and serve warm.
